Porsche 16 valve engines run a central timing chain connecting the two cams with its own oil fed pressure tensioner, The biggest problem is that no one ever checks on service intervals if the chain is worn and coming to the end of it's travel on it's tensioner.
It's remarkable how quiet these engines can be even with these chains just about to break. Many people will not invest the money to have these chains renewed as it's not a cheap job, understandable but the alternative can be catastrophic and could end up costing you three times as much if your lucky, if not it's a new engine!!
